Lt. Col. George P. Buell was the commanding officer for a time at Fort Griffin and led the Eleventh Infantry and other U.S. Army units during several battles of the Red River War.

The Saints’ Roost Museum in Clarendon includes exhibits on Lieutenant-Colonel George P. Buell and other military and Indian leaders who passed through Donley County during the Red River War.
